Dress Down Friday is a weekly terror for some. "Casual" and "corporate" are two words that just don't tend to mix, so it seems pretty twisted to torture us weekly with a day where we must teeter the balance between on- and off-duty. Help is on hand, however: each Thursday, theworkwearedit will bring to your desktops a little nugget of inspiration to help you plan an outfit for the follow day.
Clockwise from top left: ankle boots, £149, NW3 by Hobbs; loafers, £20, Chockers; sandals, £18, Topshop; cut out monk shoe, £110, Jeffrey Campbell at Office; mesh lace ups, £79 (previously £195), Kurt Geiger London.
Judging by last Friday's post, I've currently got a thing about shoes. It's probably rolling over from the weekend, when I wore my new favourite pair out for the first time - great, big towering wedges from H&M in a grey-beige colour (do people still use the word greige? Who knows!). I think it was excitement of having the chance to air these new beauties that has reignited my love for shoes and this week I'm feeling particularly evangelical about footwear, delivering you both this and my selection of sandals last Friday.
When it comes to Dress Down Friday footgear, decisions can become quite tricky. Do you go for your usual work number or a pair of trainers? What can accurately teeter the line between work and weekend and still be something you love enough to wear over and over again? Never fear however, as the high street and Internet offer up a wonderful variety of choices for every sartorial tastebud. If sport luxe is your thing (and you should at least try to make it so, seeing as it has been one of the hottest trends for the past few summer seasons), then look centre stage at these gorgeous mesh lace up wedges from Kurt Geiger London. In this season's most coveted shade of brilliant white, these tread the line between sneaker and sandal and look glorious paired with pretty much anything in your wardrobe. If you're looking for something a little bit more sure of itself, then turn to either of these two tanned beauties - the ankle boots from NW3 by Hobbs will carry you right through to winter and look great with both jeans and skirts, whilst the simple sandals from good ol' Toppers add a minimalist edge to perhaps some of the more exotic of summer prints. For those of us who are tomboys at heart and not ashamed to admit it, then visit Chockers online for a bargainous pair of black tasseled loafer which will add masculine charm to any look (and will look positively edible worn with a trouser suit throughout the week). Finally, if you're looking for something a bit different, then who better to turn to than Jeffrey Campbell? These monochromatic numbers add some chunky goodness to your outfit whilst the cut out detail flashes an unexpected portion of flesh.
