Lady in Red: 5 flaming hot picks

Clockwise from left: tube skirt, £6,; blazer, £19.99, New Look; bag, £55, Ollie & Nic at; court shoes, £74 (previously £149), Hobbs; dress, £49, Miss Selfridge.

After looking at Carven's Spring/Summer 2013 collection for Tuesday's review and discussing the perks of a red lip for Boardroom Beauty, it would have been rude not to continue down the scarlet corridor and conclude the theme of the week with five flaming hot pieces that will work in your wardrobe right now.

Acting as an unexpected pop of colour, red is universally flattering you find your own perfect shade unlike, say, yellow: another bright favourite for this season but not so forgiving on the majority of skin tones. Wear one piece of crimson clothing at a time to avoid going overboard: this cute, embellished collar dress from Miss Selfridge would look saccharine in any other colour but in the brightest of rubies it adds a punchy pop to a otherwise mundane day. Alternatively, split up two piece items and wear separately with other elements from your wardrobe: New Look's zipped pocket blazer would look chic over a black shift dress, or try a white shirt tucked into Boohoo's sexy jersey pencil skirt. Finally, for the less brazen among us, there are more subtle introduction into a fiery work look - try adding these ladylike courts from Hobbs to the bottom of a more subdued outfit or cram all your essentials into this vintage style shoulder bag from Ollie & Nic.
