Gathered Jersey Dress, £1,595, Donna Karan at Net-a-Porter.
Today marks the addition of a new series on theworkwearedit: not something weekly, like Thursday's staple of Dress Down Friday Fears, but still semi-regular enough to wet the whistles of our sartorial taste buds. Many of us, deep down in our hearts, have expensive taste (I know I certainly do), but are distinctly lacking the bank balance to fulfil such whims (hands up, again, for me). Whilst sometimes online emporiums such as Net-a-Porter and My Wardrobe seem to mock those of us without the funds of a Russian oligarch, they still make luxury accessible to us mere mortals to fawn over and cast elaborate day dreams in our minds of a walk in wardrobe filled with designer gear. Hence The Lust List: ridiculously expensive yet undeniably beautiful pieces to "ooh" and "ahh" after, whilst simultaneously torturing oneself realising that such things are, unfortunately, lost to most of us.
This week's addition is a most mundane looking piece on first glance - a simple grey jersey dress from working wear goddess Donna Karan. However, on closer inspection, everything about this piece is desirable: from the charcoal tones to the gorgeous gathering at the waist, all the way down to the subtle side split at the knee's hemline, flashing just the right amount of flesh to be sexy yet demure at the same time. I imagine wearing this to important boardroom meetings with a red lip and killer black heels (Louboutins? Let's go all out, this is a fantasy after all) for a 101 in powerful feminine attire. Don't get too excited yet though - such a beauty comes in at an eye watering price of £1,595 - so unless you have a very high limit on your credit card, or perhaps a trust fund to blow, I suggest keeping this one in the imaginary wardrobe.
