Think Pink: Next Season, Now

A fan of roses? Cotton candy? Sugared almonds? If so, you're in luck. Sashaying down the Autumn/Winter 2013 catwalks was the most unexpected shade against all the murky black, greys and navies: pink, in all of its incarnations. From subtle, dusty hues at Lanvin all the way through to rich rosiness at Roksanda Ilincic, catwalks across the countries could have been held to the tune of the colour's eponymous song by Aerosmith. Take your cue from Sonia Rykiel and Jonathan Saunder's overtly feminine styles when considering working this palette into your wardrobe with ladylike skirt suits and oversized jackets for the full effect or, if trousers are more your thing, then look towards the slouchy styles at Giles and choose a pyjama silhouette as your method of working this look.

Clockwise from left: dress, £169, Ted Baker; jumper, £25, River Island; trousers, £29.99, Zara; shoes, £35 (previously £125), Enzo Angiolini at Kurt Geiger; skirt, £48, Topshop.

Can't hold off from saccharine sweetness until Autumn comes around? Luckily, many high street retailers are already stocking their Autumn/Winter collections and pink is a colour that looks just as good in the sunshine as it does accompanying darker hues in the colder months. Ted Baker are filled with feminine goodies that celebrate the womanly shape, and this particular dress' cut flatters the figure with its 1950s inspiration. If A-Line silhouettes like this are your thing, then consider Topshop's organza insert midi length in a soft dusty hue, that will look pretty as a picture worn with a floaty, chiffon blouse and T-Bar courts. If you're feeling more loud and proud about this trend, turn towards Zara, whose Jacquard print cropped trousers are bright and lively without being eye watering. River Island similarly offer up a more saturated shade with their oversized jumper: although it may still be blazing hot outside, us Brits know the weather can turn on us in the snap of a finger and this slouchy number will act as a chic cover up underneath a grey two piece suit. Finally, if you're feeling unsure about all this girlishness, take baby steps into the trend with appropriately hued accessories. These wonderful peep toes from Enzo Angiolini at Kurt Geiger are a snip from their original price and can either be a subtle injection of next seasons's shade of choice or the topping of a full out petal toned outfit. Start building your collection now and by the time Autumn finally knocks on our door with the showing of leafless trees, you'll be on the fast track to being the trendiest woman in the office.
