5 Throw it on and Go Dresses

Clockwise from top left: printed, £24.99, H&M; blue colour block, £17.99, Innocence at New Look; asymmetrical, £35, River Island; pale blue, £169, Reiss; orange colour block, £60, French Connection.

Some days, all you want to do is roll out of bed, roll into an outfit and leave. Those of us with more stylish inclinations, however, often find this an arduous task and spend far more time than others would deem necessary fitfully planning our working ensemble. For those days when it does all seem a bit much (or you'd rather catch a few extra minutes of sleep), the humble dress is a savouir: dangerously covetable and easily accessorised, simply slip into one of these readily constructed outfits and most of the hard work is done for you.

The five beauties above are excellent examples of easy early morning choices (unless you buy all of them, in which case you may spend a long time torn between which to wear). This duck egg blue shirt dress from Reiss looks prim and proper on the hanger, but paired with simple black accessories and it becomes a working wonder. For those looking for some contrast, either of these colour block dresses will look fabulous amongst the dreary monotones of normal office wear: for a looser fit, go with Innocence at New Look's blue shift, whilst French Connection's orange jersey number will offer figure hugging qualities. If prints are more up your street, look towards H&M, whose wonderful watercolour design will hang like a work of art from your body. Finally, for something slightly more edgy, River Island's asymmetrical offering maintains a modest length whilst cutting a more interesting silhouette than the others. Throw these on with shoes and a bag and you're good to go.
