Boardroom Beauty: Red, Red Wine

Left: Vera Wang Autumn/Winter 13. Right: Marni Autumn/Winter 13. Both from Style.com.

If you've been following theworkwearedit for a while, you'll already know that I'm a big fan of the red lip. A perennial favourite for both the catwalks and everyday women alike, each season brings a new incarnation of the shade for us to slick upon the lips for an easy dose of confidence. Following tradition, next seasons's lips cast themselves in darker shades associated with night time gothic glamour but this does not, however, make them any less accessible for daytime wear.

For an edgy, "just bitten" look, follow in the footsteps of Marni, where colour was concentrated on the inside of the lip and softly blended outwards, giving the impression of a mouth stained with the juices of winter berries. However, if this is too fussy or fashion-forward for your nine to five environment, look towards Vera Wang for an easier entrance into the trend. Keep skin and eyes pared back and flawless, concentrating on creating the perfect blank canvass for your look. When skin is suitably prepped and primed, apply a merlot hue to the lips, blot and repeat for highly pigmented, opaque colour that will work just as well in the boardroom as it will in the bar.
