Monday Blues

Clockwise from left: blazer, £265, Reiss and trousers, £130, also Reiss; shoes, £58, Office; bag, £29.99, Zara; earrings, £2, River Island.

It's Monday; fresh start to a new week, filled with possibilities - so what is it about this day that gets us so down? After the weekend's frivolities, returning to the daily grind feels nothing less than painful, especially coupled with an early morning start after two days of luxurious lay-ins. If you're feeling in need of cheering up, then gaze upon these five treasures, especially chosen to show not all Monday Blues are bad.

Nothing personally gets me more hot under the collar than a good bit of tailoring, and this navy suit from Reiss is a glorious example of how the trouser suit has overcome its dowdy reputation. Potentially more expensive than what you would normally buy (blazer and trousers come in at £395 combined), this pairing is quite the investment piece in a colour scheme that will never date. For something a little less expensive, the high street is filled with accessories in a variety of hues, from cobalt to cornflower. Channel Elvis Presley's 1956 song Blue Suede Shoes with these updated pointed courts and play matchy-matchy with River Island earrings that are a steal at only £2. Finally, add some ladylike refinery to your look with this miniature city bag from Zara. Perfectly structured and featuring both handles and a body strap for ease of carry, the best things really do come in small packages.
